Being healthy and fit gives you the confidence and drive to explore and be adventurous.
Over seven years ago, I was in my first year of university abroad in England.. Due to stress and bad eating habits, I gained over 30 pounds in the span of 2-3 months. The rest of my experience was tainted dramatically. I went on a European tour for 18-35 year olds over Christmas and as all of the other women on the trip pranced around in slim evening dresses, I felt insecure and uncomfortable in my own skin.
We had the option to go for a night to Monaco to visit the ritzy casino and were told to dress up. I didn’t go. I was the only person not to go and stayed back in the hotel in France. I missed out on an opportunity to visit another country for free because of my weight.. I couldn’t fit any dress that fit and had nothing to wear.
A year later, I made it my mission to lose weight and lost over 50 pounds through a change in diet and exercise. I was finally able to travel feeling and looking good. I remember wearing a bikini for the first time in Spain in 2009. I’ve travelled extensively since then and have been living in Spain since 2010.
When you are fit and healthy, you enjoy the places you visit more. You have more endurance to hike, climb, and walk through cities or mountains. You look good on the beach. You are more confident to make new friends or meet potential romantic interests. The sky becomes the limit.
Someone I know personally has avoided going on airplanes for over a decade because of her weight and a fear of not fitting in the airplane seat or being ridiculed.
How much has she missed out on?
How many beautiful places has she denied herself the opportunity to see because of her weight?
We only have one life. Don’t waste it dreaming.. Don’t miss out on LIFE.
